Black Panther (Civil War) is a Skill Champion. Being a Skill Champion, he has a Class Bonus against Science Champions, but is weak to Mutant Champions.
Bio[]
The King of the reclusive but technologically advanced African nation Wakanda, King T'Challa's birthright is not only to rule but to don the mantle of the Black Panther, a powerful warrior and symbol to his people. T'Challa will aggressively defend his country and citizens against any threat, no matter how menacing.
Mechanics[]
This version of Black Panther is all about shrugging off his opponent’s blows and then making them regret daring to strike him. This rework gives the player more control over his ability to store up incoming damage and greatly improves his ability to dish it back out.

Reflective Matrix
- Black Panther starts each fight with Reflective Matrix active, increasing his Critical Resistance by +X for 10 seconds. Reflective Matrix is paused during the Opponent’s Specials.

- When Black Panther is inflicted with a Stun Debuff while making contact with the Opponent, he consumes his Reflective Matrix to Purify the Stun. Then, if he is not Passively Stunned and the Opponent is not performing a Special Attack, he inflicts a Stun Debuff on the Opponent for 2.5 seconds.
- When Reflective Matrix ends, it goes on cooldown for 10 seconds, after which it reactivates the next time Black Panther is struck or Blocks an attack. The cooldown is decreased by up to 50% based on missing Health.
Dev Notes: You’ll immediately notice this Skill champion no longer has Armor Up Buffs, and thus that getting him into his reflective state is much easier and more predictable than before. Similarly, the Stun reflect no longer requires an armor up, but is more easily played around when the matrix is on cooldown, and can also be turned off by Mutants who replace Stun Debuffs with Passives.
Reflect Charges – Max: 75
- While Reflective Matrix is active, Black Panther can gain and refresh Reflect Charges. These last for 12 seconds, are paused during Special Attacks, and can be refreshed by Dodging back after landing a non-Combo Ending Attack.
- Gain 1 Charge for every X Health lost from being struck or Blocking an attack.

- Gain 3 Charges when either Champion performs a Well-Timed Block, plus 5 additional Charges if Blocking a Special Attack or if Black Panther is Defending. Cooldown: 0.15 seconds.
- As an Attacker, Reflective Matrix pauses for 10 seconds whenever Black Panther gains a Reflect Charge, reduced by 0.2 seconds for every active Charge.
Dev Notes: This resource still accumulates when T’Challa loses health, but is now primarily accumulated through intentional gameplay by the player. Charges can also be refreshed with incomplete combos, and gaining them regularly lets you hold onto the Matrix, and thus build charges, for longer.
Kinetic Burst
- Black Panther can unleash stored Reflect Charges as a Kinetic Burst, dealing X Direct Damage for each Charge. This damage scales with Base Health and is reduced by 20% against Mutant Champions.

- As a Defender, deal a Kinetic Burst whenever Black Panther strikes the Opponent with Reflect Charges active.
- The final hit of Special Attack 2 deals a Kinetic Burst.
- Each hit of a Heavy Attack, or of a Special Attack activated during a Heavy Attack, deals a Kinetic Burst.
- After an attack that deals one or more Kinetic Bursts, remove all Charges and consume Reflective Matrix if active, reducing its cooldown by up to 50% based on the remaining duration.
Dev Notes: A defending Black Panther will still unleash stored energy on any hit that strikes the opponent, but Attackers have much more control now. The goal here is to cancel a Heavy Attack into a Special and cash out your charges multiple times across each of those hits.

Dev Notes: Starting with additional charges is a huge boon to Black Panther’s first damage payout, allowing him to burst down large opponents quickly. The Signature Ability also improves his survivability while the matrix is active and protects him from disruptive Heavy Attacks.

The King of Wakanda proves his strength to all that might disbelieve his power.
- On activation, gain 4 Cleanse Passives for 24 seconds. These Cleanses cannot remove Stun Debuffs.
- Gain 4 Reflect Charges on each landed or Blocked hit.
- Each hit inflicts a Bleed Debuff dealing X Direct Damage over 10 seconds.

Special 2 - Power of Ancestors
Calling upon the spirits of his ancestors grants strength for swift and powerful blows.

Dev Notes: The Special 2 is pure damage. It has more hits than the Special 1, and so deals more Kinetic Bursts, and its Bleed Debuffs can get very large with enough stored charges.
Special 3 - Wakandan Assault
Pinpoint strikes weaken his foes, then T’Challa strikes hard to bring down the enemy of Wakanda.
- Activate or refresh Reflective Matrix and pause it for 20 seconds.
- Gain 10 Reflect Charges and refresh all Charges.
Dev Notes: A standard “easy button” Special that ramps Black Panther and makes him temporarily easier to play.

Strengths[]
- Burst Damage
- Black Panther’s suit is specifically built to absorb incoming energy and unleash it in a furious explosion. Time this explosion correctly and you’ll be rewarded with massive red numbers.
- Stun Reflect
- T’Challa doesn’t like getting parried. Attempts to stun him while he’s making contact with the opponent will leave them vulnerable to that counter-attack sooner rather than later.
- Bleed
- Those claws aren’t just for show – charged up properly, Black Panther has access to some of the largest bleeds in the game.
Weaknesses[]
- Unblockable
- Black Panther is at his best when he can Parry. Having to get out of the way fully limits his ability to ramp.
- Bleed Immunity
- Most of his damage is direct bursts, but the Bleeds are significant. Losing them limits his damage reach.
- Tempo Disruption
- The timers and pauses are intended to favor the player, but they do have limits. With enough disruption, T’Challa will lose his ramp and have to start over.
