Buffs (right) have borders while Passives (left) do not.
A Buff is a beneficial effect that positively impacts the Champion under the effects of the Buff. Buffs are separated from passive effects in that they always have a border, and can be removed by Nullify, Stagger and Fate Seal, or prevented by Neutralize.
A Buff is affected by three factors:
- Potency: The strength of the Buff; usually represented by a numerical value or a percentage.
- Duration: The length of the Buff; usually represented in seconds.
- Ability Accuracy: The chance for the Buff to trigger; usually represented as a percentage.
E.g. - 17% chance to gain an Armor Up Buff for 6 seconds, granting +525 Armor Rating.
- 17% is the Ability Accuracy, 525 is the Potency, and 6 seconds is the Duration.
