Marvel Contest of Champions Wiki

Guillotine (Deathless) is a Mystic Champion. Being a Mystic Champion, she has a Class Bonus against Cosmic Champions, but is weak to Science Champions. She can be obtained by collecting the 5 pieces of Deathless Guillotine's Sword. These pieces could be obtained by completing several objectives for the 7-star like Necropolis Completion, a Challenge Objective, Battlegrounds Season 12 Gladiator Circuit and a Banquet milestone, while the 6-Star versions can be bought with several in-game currencies. Some pieces also came through a in-game mail. The 7-star pieces will also come available to be purchased by Units.[2][3]

Bio[]

In years past, Champions from the Death Realm staged an assault on the Battlerealm. Empowered by the Death Stone, Thanos created nameless, empty versions of the heroes of the Battlerealm. Of these nameless Champions, a select few were granted malicious will and elevated to become the Deathless, to lead his armies and sow chaos and destruction. Guillotine was the first Deathless he created.

Mechanics[]

The “remix” we designed for Guillotine (Deathless) was to bring back the version of her kit from before she was reworked back in 2021. While the current Guillotine kit is still in a great spot, we know many Summoners were attached to her kit as it used to be, so this is a great chance to provide that. The only notable change we wanted to make was swapping her Bleed to a Degen, to better conform to the Mystic class identity. Read more about that in the Dev Note for the ability. Other than that, and a few value tune-ups, we left the rest of her abilities as-is.

Abilities[]

Always Active

  • Start each fight with 4 Souls. Each Soul grants Guillotine +X Critical Damage Rating. 1 Soul expires every 10 seconds. Souls are treated as Cruelty Passives for all other abilities.
  • For every 5% of Max Health that Guillotine removes from her Opponent during combat, she feeds her ancestral blade and gains 1 Soul.

Dev Notes: Souls are Guillotine’s main resource, building them up as the Opponent takes damage from any source. The pre-rework kit had her gaining a Soul every 6% of the Opponent’s health, so we improved that slightly by lowering the threshold to 5%.

Critical Hits

  • If the hit was not Blocked, inflict a Degeneration Debuff, dealing X Direct Damage over 6 seconds.

This is Guillotine’s main source of damage. Her pre-rework kit was a Bleed that had a 50% chance to trigger, lasted 4.5 seconds, and did less damage. Dev Notes: For the Deathless version, we switched it to a Degen to better conform to the Mystic Class, and benefit from both the Ghost Rider Relic and from no Champions being immune to Degen. We also increased the chance, damage, and duration, to make it feel better and to account for the fact that this doesn’t benefit from the Deep Wounds mastery any more.

Signature Ability[]

Ancestor's Strength - All Attacks

  • The Souls of her ancestors empower Guillotine further, granting a 10% chance to steal X% of damage done as Health for every 4 Souls she possesses. Minimum X% Health Steal regardless of current Soul count.

Special Attacks[]

Special Attack 1 – La Force d'Ancêtres
Guided by the wisdom of those that came before, Guillotine strikes down her foe with a mighty cleaving blow.

Dev Notes: Guillotine’s original kit didn’t have any abilities for Special Attack 1.

Special Attack 2 – Coup de Massue
Thrusting her bestowed blade into the earth, Guillotine strikes her opponent, then delivers a heavy overhead slash.

  • The final hit inflicts a 200% Spectre Debuff for 10 seconds, then consumes 2 Souls.

Dev Notes: A solid, very potent Spectre Debuff to instantly invert the Opponent’s Regeneration Rate, causing their healing effects to deal that much damage to them instead.

Special Attack 3 – Coup de Grâce
Even a killing blow may be an act of mercy.

  • La Fleur du Mal deals 2% of the Opponent’s Max Health in Direct Damage per Soul. After this attack, 50% of Guillotine’s Souls are consumed, rounded down.

Dev Notes: This is the final change we made to her kit. The Special 3 used to consume all her Souls when it was used, but that felt a bit too punishing, so we lowered the number of Souls consumed.

Strengths and Weaknesses[]

Strengths[]

  • Degeneration
    • Guillotine has really easy access to Degeneration, all she has to do is land a Crit, and watch the red numbers start to fly.
  • Spectre
    • Similarly, Guillotine is easily able to invert the Opponent’s healing effects. Her Special 2 inflicts a 200% potency Spectre Debuff, which exactly inverts their Regeneration rate and turns their healing effects into damage.
  • Regeneration
    • With her Signature Ability, Guillotine heals for a percent of the damage her hits inflict, depending on how many Souls she has. This Regeneration rate is great for staying topped-up on health over the course of a quest.

Weaknesses[]

  • Opponents with large health pools
    • In order to gain Souls, the Opponent needs to lose a certain amount of their Max health. Opponents with larger health pools will take more work to reach these health thresholds, which will slow Guillotine down
  • Anti-Crit effects
    • Guillotine needs to Crit in order to trigger her Degeneration, so Opponents who can prevent or punish Crits will prove to be a problem for her.

Recommended Masteries[]

  • Precision
    • Guillotine needs to Crit in order to trigger her Degen, so the Precision mastery helps that happen more frequently.
  • Glass Cannon
    • The Regen from Guillotine’s sig is based on the damage her hits deal, so increasing that damage via Glass Cannon will also increase the amount she heals, which should help compensate for Glass Cannon’s health drawback.
  • Despair and Inequity
    • While Guillotine isn’t able to stack up a ton of Debuffs in the way some Science Champions can, the Debuffs she does inflict have decent durations, so they will usually be a couple on the Opponent at any given time, making Despair and Inequity valuable investments.
