Okoye

Okoye is a Skill Champion. Being a Skill Champion, she has a Class Bonus against Science Champions, but is weak to Mutant Champions.

Bio[]

An experienced warrior and member of the Dora Milaje, Okoye fights alongside and protects the King of Wakanda, the Black Panther. With unrivaled close-combat expertise, and a matching degree of wisdom, there are few who can survive an encounter against Okoye.

Mechanics[]

Okoye’s gameplay is based around dodging incoming attacks with her enhanced Dexterity Mastery, which can stack up longer-lasting Precision Buffs for increased Critical Hit Chance. Okoye’s Critical Hits inflict Bleed and Shock Debuffs, which can be enhanced by reaching a Combo Meter of 50 and activating her Vicious Passive. Light Attacks will build the Combo Meter rapidly while Medium Attacks will grant extra Precision Buffs. Deciding which Basic Attacks to weave together will shift based on which opponent Okoye is facing.

Abilities[]

Enhanced Dexterity

Elite Wakandan training grants 2 Ranks of the Dexterity Mastery.
Precision Buffs gained from Dexterity last +3 seconds and can stack up to 20 times. Striking the Opponent only removes 1 Dexterity Precision Buff per hit.
Start each fight with 15 Dexterity Precision Buffs.
Medium Attacks grant 2 Dexterity Precision Buffs.
Avoiding an attack with Dexterity grants 3 Precision Buffs

Dev Notes: Because Dexterity technically grants two different Precision Buffs, one that’s an infinite duration and the other that isn’t, it’s possible to temporarily get above the 20 stack limit for Precision Buffs.

Mastery Bonus Ranks Above Max

Any Mastery Ranks Okoye gains stack with any Ranks already invested. Additional Ranks beyond the Max Rank do not further increase the effectiveness of the Mastery.
For each Rank above Max, the benefits of the Opponent’s Suture, Coagulate, Serum Science, and Mystic Dispersion Masteries are reduced by 25%. Max: 100%.

Dev Notes: Masteries that are increased beyond their maximum won’t grant increasing benefits beyond the highest rank of the Mastery (We briefly tried a version of the ability that allowed this, but, to put it simply, it broke nearly every system in some way or another). The bonus ranks are only used for Okoye’s ability to counter Coagulate, Suture, Serum Science and Mystic Dispersion.

Debuffs and Critical Damage Multiplier

Instead of increasing Critical Damage, Okoye’s Critical Damage Multiplier grants increased Debuff duration, excluding Stun. Okoye’s modified Debuff duration can be seen in brackets.
Dodging an attack inflicts the Opponent with a non-stacking Ensnare Debuff for 12 (18) seconds.
Critical Hits inflict a Bleed and Shock Debuff, dealing X Direct Damage and Energy Damage over 3 (4.5) seconds. Each time an Immunity prevents a Bleed or Shock Debuff, refresh 4 Bleed and 4 Shock Debuffs on the Opponent.

Dev Notes: The modified duration for Okoye’s Critical Damage Rating is only accounting for her base Critical Damage Rating. Any other increases from outside sources like Mastery Bonuses and Stat Focus, will provide further increases to Debuff duration.

You will still see a slight damage bump from landing Critical Hits in relation to normal strikes as Okoye still benefits from the built-in Armor Penetration granted by Critical Hits.

Combo Shield & Combo Meter

Okoye starts each fight with an indefinite Combo Shield Passive.
Light Attacks grant +1 Combo Meter per hit.
When Okoye’s Combo Meter reaches 50, gain a 60% Vicious Passive for 20 seconds which can’t re-trigger while active. While this Vicious is active, pause all Precision Buffs on Okoye. When this Vicious ends, Okoye’s Combo Meter is lost.

Dev Notes: Okoye’s Light Attack 1, 2 and 3 are all double hits. This means that a Medium, Light, Light, Light, Light Combo will yield +15 Combo instead of the usual 5.

Heavy Attack - Combo Meter 30+

The final hit consumes 20 Combo Meter to remove and re-inflict up to 10 personal Bleed or Shock Debuffs on the Opponent.

Dev Notes: Because these Debuffs are being removed and re-inflicted, they will get upgraded potency if Okoye’s Vicious Passive is active.

Special and Heavy Attacks

The first hit is a Guaranteed Critical Hit.
Critical Hits pause all Buffs on Okoye and all Debuffs on the Opponent, excluding Stun, for 1.5 seconds.

Always Active

Top-tier armaments grants 3 Ranks of the Deep Wounds Mastery, which is enhanced to include Shock Debuffs and inflict Instant Shocks.

While Okoye’s Health Points are lower than her Opponent’s, all Endurance and Precision Buffs on her expire X% slower.

Special Attacks[]

Special 1 - The Strength to Endure
A barrage of strikes at full reach, followed by a sweeping strike to create distance. A sequence to guard against aggression.

On activation, gain a non-stacking 60% Endurance Buff for 14 seconds. While active, each time a Debuff on Okoye expires, gain +2 Combo Meter and 2 Dexterity Precision Buffs.

Dev Notes: Endurance only reduces the duration of new Debuffs that are applied after the Endurance is already in place.

Special 2 - The Wisdom to Strike
A rapid flurry of strikes from all directions, finished with a Vibranium-powered slam. A sequence to clear away enemies.

Critical Hits inflict an additional Bleed and Shock Debuff. Non-Critical Hits inflict 1 Bleed and Shock Debuff.

Special 3 - The Courage to Protect
A series of pin-point strikes to lightly protected areas, combined with a fully charged Vibranium blast. A sequence to protect Wakanda.

For every 10% Max Health the Opponent is missing, this attack gains +X Attack Rating and the Opponent Passively suffers -10% Ability Accuracy.

Strengths and Weaknesses[]

Strengths[]

Rapid Combo Meter Gain & Combo Shield
- Okoye’s Light Attacks build her Combo Meter quickly, which can be helpful to address troublesome defenders, such as Scorpion and Cassie Lang, who require Combo Meter gain within a set amount of time.

High Debuff Damage and Frequent Critical Hits
- Okoye starts each fight with a high number of Precision Buffs and the ability to output a lot of damage quickly through Bleed and Shock. While fighting enemies that are Immune to Bleed or Shock, Okoye will Refresh the duration of the other Debuff, allowing her damage to keep pace in fights without double immunity.

Quick Access to Vital Utility
- By avoiding an attack with Dexterity, Okoye can inflict the opponent with Ensnare, which prevents the opponent from Evading attacks.

Weaknesses[]

High Number of Buffs and Debuffs
- While Okoye can deal with the Mystic Dispersion Mastery, other effects which punish the activation of Buffs will find frequent activations in fights with Okoye. Likewise, as most of her damage is tied to Shock and/or Bleed Debuffs, Okoye will struggle in fights where she can’t rely on either.

Low Survivability
- While Okoye has good Block Proficiency and Dexterity to help her avoid incoming damage, she has no means of mitigating damage that does come in.

Recommended Masteries[]

Dexterity
- While Okoye does benefit from 2 free ranks of Dexterity, granting her 1 or more can be beneficial in amplifying her Critical Hit Chance and reducing the potency of the opponent’s Mystic Dispersion.

Deep Wounds
- Once Okoye has her Signature Ability, which can be activated early via a synergy bonus with Shuri, Deep Wounds provides increases to Okoye’s Bleed and Shock. Once the opponent’s health is lower than Okoye’s, it will also start to deal a doubled-up burst of Bleed and Shock damage to rapidly end the fight.

Despair
- Okoye can inflict a high number of Debuffs rapidly, and Despair can be a handy tool to counteract any troublesome regeneration effects that may be dragging out the fight.

Critical Damage Rating
- Okoye’s Critical Hit Chance is already quite high thanks to her Precision Buffs, but her Critical Damage, which boosts the duration of her Debuffs, is relatively standard, and so benefits from being boosted. As an alternative, Armor or Physical/Energy Resistance can be a good choice to extend survivability in target matchups.

Defender[]

Critical Damage Rating
- With such a high Critical Hit Chance, this can ensure that Okoye deals the most damage possible when she does manage to land hits as a defender.

Recommended Relics[]

Black Panther
- As one might expect, Okoye works very well with the Black Panther Relics as her Heavy and Special Attacks can make use of the bonuses to Guaranteed Critical Hits. She also benefits from the “Anti-Evade” ability whenever the opponent’s Evade fails due to her Ensnare Debuff.
