Patriot is a Skill Champion. Being a Skill Champion, he has a Class Bonus against Science Champions, but is weak to Mutant Champions.
Bio[]
Eli Bradley has long known the best and the worst of his country. His grandfather Isaiah was one of the very first Super Soldiers, the kind of warrior for liberty that little boys dream of becoming. But Isaiah’s work, like the brutal experiments that gave him his powers and so many of his peers an early death, was kept a shameful secret by the country he served, teaching Eli from a young age that service is never simple. Still, feeling a deep need to make the world a better place, he co-founded the Young Avengers as Patriot. Though sometimes at odds with Captain America and the Avengers, Eli still earned their respect, even taking up Cap’s original shield with his blessing. Patriot continues to strive to make his home into the better place it must become.
Mechanics[]
Patriot is about enduring whatever a fight throws at him, growing stronger from it, and then suddenly and brutally overcoming the challenge. He stacks Debuffs on himself, excels at blocking dangerous Opponents, and then uses his unique Reversal mechanic to put Opponents on their back, vulnerable to his deadly follow-up.

Abilities[]
Get Back Up Again - Always Active
- Incoming Weakness effects and the potency of the Opponent’s Inequity Mastery suffer 76% reduced potency.
- For each Debuff on Patriot, he gains +X Attack Rating. Max benefit at 7 Debuffs.
| Tier | Attack Rating |
|---|---|
| 19.76 | |
| 52.52 | |
| 131.69 | |
| 264.03 | |
| 450.45 | |
| 1144 |
- Patriot gains an indefinite Steadfast Passive while suffering from at least 5 non-Damaging Debuffs. Against Science Champions, this threshold is reduced to 3 non-Damaging Debuffs.
- Patriot’s Base Regeneration Rate is 44% and cannot be lowered further.
- While a Science Opponent has a Fury Passive active and Patriot is Blocking, he inflicts a 40% Weakness Passive. This Weakness gains up to 100% increased potency based on Patriot’s missing health.
Dev Notes: Like some previous Skill Champions, Patriot benefits from having Debuffs on himself and has a reduced Regeneration Rate to compensate for the constant safe source of Willpower. Unlike his predecessors, though, Patriot also specifically targets the Inequity Mastery to mitigate how much these Debuffs slow him down in competitive modes. The final bullet is relatively niche, but will significantly increase Eli’s survivability against certain Science Champions with large Fury Passives.
Prodigious Tactician
- Patriot gains an additional hit in his Combo Meter when striking the Opponent or their Block with a Light Attack or when Blocking an attack.
- As a Defender, Patriot starts each fight with an indefinite Combo Shield Passive.
- When either Champion Well-Timed Blocks, Patriot gains a Vigilance Passive for 3 seconds.
- If a personal Precision is not active, knocking down the Opponent grants Patriot a +X Precision Passive for 5 seconds.
| Tier | Critical Rating |

| 1233.33 | |

| 1400 | |
| 1500 | |

- Personal Precision effects allow Patriot to land Critical Hits into Block and pause for 0.5 seconds when the Opponent or their Block is struck.
Dev Notes: Patriot is able to generate Combo more quickly than most other Champions, even while Blocking. He also has access to a short Vigilance Passive, allowing him to easily bypass Miss with his Basic Attacks, but be careful chaining this into Specials! Patriot also wants to knock down the Opponent frequently, as he gets a large boost to Critical Rating and the ability to land Critical Hits into block when he does so. Note that Striker hits will also pause this Precision.
Heroic Resolve – Debuffs
- Resolve Debuffs are indefinite and have no effect. Max stacks: 10.
- When the Combo Meter rises past a multiple of 10, Patriot gains one Resolve Debuff and increases his Critical Damage Rating by +X for the rest of the fight.
| Tier | Critical Damage Rating |
|---|---|
| 27.64 | |
| 30.08 | |
| 32.52 | |
| 34.15 | |
| 36.59 | |
| 44.72 |
- Whenever a non-Damaging Debuff on Patriot other than Resolve ends for any reason, gain one Resolve Debuff.
- When Patriot is struck by the final hit of a Special Attack, he loses one Resolve, or two against Mutants.
Dev Notes: Here Patriot’s Combo and Debuff mechanics come together in Resolve Debuffs, which Patriot can place on himself either by gaining Combo or whenever another non-Damaging Debuff (such as the Parry stun) ends. This includes being replaced due to a stack limit! Resolve also turns on Patriot’s primary defensive ability, so try to keep it under control with Special Attacks.
Sudden Reversal – While at 7+ Resolve Debuffs
- As a Defender, when Patriot would be struck by a Basic Attack, he consumes 7 Resolve to execute a Reversal.
- When Reversing, gain a non-stacking Fury Passive increasing Attack Rating by +X for 12 seconds.
| Tier | Attack Rating |
|---|---|
| 228 | |
| 606 | |
| 1519.5 | |
| 3046.5 | |
| 5197.5 | |
| 13200 |
- As an Attacker, if Patriot would be struck by a Basic Attack while charging a Heavy Attack, he consumes 7 Resolve to execute a Reversal and gain two personal Precision Passives, and his Fury Passive gains 87% increased duration.
- Patriot’s Heavy can be charged for an extended duration.
Dev Notes: This is Patriot’s new mechanic – Reversal. When he has enough Resolve Debuffs active, he can remove any Stun effects on himself, block the incoming attack, and retaliate with a short-range blast that automatically knocks down the Opponent, similar to those found in the Cerastes and Bahamet boss fights. As an Attacker, Patriot needs to be charging a Heavy Attack to do this, so brush up on tactics you may have learned from Mister Negative or Negasonic Teenage Warhead for doing this safely!
Signature Ability[]
To Act Is To Be Committed - Always Active
- Personal Precision Passives gain X% increased potency.
| Tier | Potency % |
|---|---|
| 10 - 33.03% | |
| 10 - 33.03% | |
| 10 - 33.03% | |

| 10 - 40.04% |
- Each Debuff on Patriot grants +X Block Proficiency. Against Science Champions, Patriot’s Block Proficiency cannot be reduced below where this ability would set it, and the Opponent’s Block Penetration is locked to 0.
| Tier | Block Proficiency |
|---|---|
| 89.47 - 231.93 | |
| 97.37 - 252.4 | |
| 105.26 - 272.86 | |
| 110.53 - 371.84 | |
| 118.42 - 398.4 | |
| 144.74 - 486.94 |
Dev Notes: Do you like to land Critical Hits? Then the first bullet of this sig is for you! The other bullet dramatically improves Patriot’s ability to block dangerous attacks.
Special Attacks[]
Special 1 - Here’s the Windup
Patriot takes control of the fight with a quick series of wide-swinging punches and kicks.
- Each of the four hits grant +3 additional Combo Meter.
- For each multiple of 10 the Combo Meter passed during this attack, the final hit inflicts one X Physical Vulnerability Debuff for 30 seconds.
| Tier | Physical Vulnerability |
|---|---|
| 566.67 | |
| 616.67 | |
| 666.67 | |
| 700 | |
| 750 | |
| 916.67 |
Dev Notes: This is Patriot’s main ramp Special Attack. It guarantees him another Resolve Debuff and a Physical Vulnerability on the Opponent, or two of each if timed correctly (mind your Combo count when you throw this). If the Ruptures from his Special 2 are active, you can even get a third Vulnerability!
Special 2 - Stars and Stripes
A quick hit from the stripes makes space for a trio of spinning stars.
- If this attack is activated while the Opponent is standing up after a Reversal, it is Passively Unblockable, and personal Fury and Precision Passives are paused during the Special and for 8 seconds after.
- Projectile hits inflict X Rupture Debuffs for 6.5 seconds.
| Tier | Physical Damage |
|---|---|
| 106.4 | |
| 282.8 | |
| 709.1 | |
| 1421.7 | |
| 2425.5 | |
| 6160 |
Dev Notes: This Special Attack is Patriot’s cashout. The Ruptures deal Physical Damage and thus benefit from the Vulnerabilities in the Special 1, but the main goal of the kit is to use this Special immediately following a successful reversal, which puts Patriot firmly on the offensive.
Special 3 - Adapt and Overcome
Eli adjusts his footing for a brutal takedown, complete with an aerial spin and kick.
- The first three times this attack is used, Patriot reduces the number of Resolve Debuffs consumed by his Reversal by 1 for the rest of the fight.
- Refresh personal Fury and Precision Passives.
Dev Notes: The Special 3 is primarily for longer fights, where the investment is worth a cheaper reversal (and thus less ramp before the next one) for the rest of the fight.
Synergy Bonuses[]
Strengths and Weaknesses[]
Strengths[]
- Reversal
- This new mechanic can quickly take Patriot from the back foot to the front, by knocking down the Opponent and dramatically boosting his damage output. It’s always satisfying to take the initiative with an explosion!
- Benefits from Debuffs on Self
- Patriot hits harder and takes less damage for each Debuff on him, and even answers the Inequity mastery, which traditionally slows down characters with similar abilities.
- Blocking, esp. Science Champs
- That’s Cap’s original shield Eli’s wielding there! Patriot blocks like a Captain America – that is to say, very well. In some circumstances, he can even block Unblockable attacks.
Weaknesses[]
- Punishing Debuffs
- While Patriot does benefit from Debuffs on himself, he doesn’t stop Opponents from also benefiting from them, leaving him somewhat vulnerable to characters like Void or Luke Cage.
- Punishing Critical Hits
- Patriot’s damage output is largely based on big yellow numbers, so think twice before using him against characters who punish crits, like Toad or Mister Sinister.
- Damage Over Time
- Patriot blocks well and, given time, can recover a lot of lost health through Willpower, but he has no damage immunities or resistances, and can be cut down plenty quickly by these effects.
Recommended Stat Focus[]
- Block Proficiency
- Patriot’s ability to mess with the Opponent’s Block Penetration allows him to feel the full benefit of this choice against Science Champions, boosting his solid blocks even further.
- Special Damage
- Patriot boosts his own attack, Critical Rating, and Critical Damage Rating, and so waters down those choices for a potential damage boost, but benefits a lot from this raw boost to the hit damage of his Special Attacks.
Recommended Relics[]
- Black Panther
- Patriot benefits from almost every part of this Relic. He does not have access to Guaranteed Crits, but he has frequent ones, benefits from Physical Vulnerability, and loves to reduce Crit Resistance to let the full effect of his Precisions be felt.
