Scream is a Cosmic Champion. Being a Cosmic Champion, she has a Class Bonus against Tech Champions, but is weak to Mystic Champions.
Bio[]
Daughter of Venom, sister to Carnage, Scream is one of five Symbiotes forcibly harvested from Venom by the Life Foundation. The symbiote that would become Scream was bonded to Donna Diego, one of the Life Foundation’s most trusted Security Guards. Unfortunately, Scream and her siblings lost their altercations with Spider-Man and Venom, but they survived the Life Foundation’s collapse. Scream and Donna were left with only each other and a grudge against other symbiotes. Now they’ve arrived in the Battlerealm and Scream plans to hunt down her kind and put an end to them.
Mechanics[]
Scream is a potent Cosmic Attacker with useful Defensive potential who uses her Symbiote Tendrils to thrash her Opponents. As the latest in a long line of Symbiotes in The Contest, she inherits several mechanics from her predecessors, but they are spun in unique ways to set her apart. She is an extremely aggressive Champion who rewards resource management and risky plays while providing potent survivability thanks to her Regeneration Buffs and her ability to Auto-Block using her twisted sentient hair.

Abilities[]
All Attacks - Rip and Hair

- When the Opponent is inflicted with a personal Bleed, also inflict a X Armor Break Debuff for 10 seconds, plus 0.5 seconds for each rank invested in the Deep Wounds Mastery. If a personal Bleed is prevented by an Immunity, inflict 2 Armor Breaks.
| Tier | Armor Rating |

Dev Notes: Scream might be as blood-crazed as her brother Carnage, though the potency of these should be minimal enough to not cause serious harm on their own. The additional Armor Breaks however will help shred the Armor of Tech Champions. Rack both these effects up and they will pay dividends in her Special Attack 2.
Madness Passives – Max: 8
- Enter each fight with 4 Madness Passives. When these expire naturally, or on Scream’s fourth Light Attack, they are all refreshed and 2 Madness are gained.
- The first Madness lasts 18 seconds, with each additional Madness increasing their own expiry rate by 20%.
- Madness is paused for 0.5 seconds when the Opponent is struck by a Basic Attack and is paused indefinitely during the Opponent’s Special Attacks or while Strikers are active.
- At 6 or more Madness, the Opponent’s Stun Debuffs suffer 100% reduced Ability Accuracy.
- When knocked down by a Special Attack, when a personal Buff is Nullified, or when Incinerated by a Mystic Champion, Scream loses 2 Madness. If Madness falls to 0, 1 is gained after 9 seconds.
Dev Notes: Derangement seems to run in the family. Scream’s Madness Passives are a hybrid between Venom’s Klyntar Mutation Buff and Anti-Venom’s Genetic Memory tracker. However, it stacks, and each stack causes it to tick faster and faster. Learning to control the chaos caused by this will be key to mastering Scream’s gameplay.
Hybrid Buffs – Max: 2 of Each
- When Madness is refreshed its icon changes to reflect the currently selected Hybrid Buff, cycling through Scream’s indefinite hybrid Buffs in the order listed below:
- A 25% Vicious Buff, a 20% Energize Buff, a X Bulwark Buff, and a X Impact Buff.
| Tier | Block Proficiency / Penetration |
|---|---|
| 566.67 | |
| 616.67 | |
| 666.67 | |
| 700 | |
| 750 | |
| 916.67 |
- Hybrid Buffs can only be gained while Madness is at 1 or more. Either Champion’s second Medium Attack grants Scream the currently selected Hybrid Buff.
- When gaining a Hybrid Buff with 2 of the currently selected Hybrid Buff, Madness is refreshed instead.
- While at 2 stacks of any Hybrid Buff, when Scream would gain a Hybrid Buff she also gains a non-stacking Undermine Buff for 5 seconds. As an Attacker, this Undermine is paused during the Opponent’s Special Attacks.
Dev Notes: Much like Venom’s Genetic Memory Buffs, Scream’s Hybrid Buffs allow her to ramp her damage, tempo, and resilience throughout the fight. When Scream attempts to gain a Hybrid Buff she has already maxed out, she will automatically cycle to the next Hybrid Buff, so you won’t miss out. Capitalize on the useful Undermine Buff here as well to break through the defenses of tricky Auto-Block Defenders.
Dev Side Note: The order of the Hybrid Buff cycle used to have Energize and Impact swapped, this created a nice V.I.B.E. acronym to help memorize it (Remember to V.I.B.E. with Scream). But the Energize was found to be important enough that it had to be swapped around to feel good. Sadly, this changes the acronym, so please V.E.B.I. with Scream instead.
Auto-Blocks – Symbiote Sense
- When Madness is consumed by Scream, gain a non-stacking Auto-Block Buff for 5 seconds that is removed when Auto-Blocking a contact attack.
- This Auto-Block Buff grants a 100% chance to Auto-Block Basic Attacks. These count as Well-Timed Blocks and have a 100% chance to resist a Block Break by a Heavy Attack.
- When successfully Auto-Blocking an attack, gain 1 of the currently selected Hybrid Buff and inflict a personal Bleed.
Dev Notes: Sentient hair has a mind of its own, Blocking attacks for Scream when she is vulnerable in key moments such as when she charges a Heavy Attack or immediately after her Special Attacks. While this is an obvious Defensive trigger, try to capitalize on it as an Attacker by using the Parry Mastery to find unconventional openings.
Heavy Attacks – Consuming Madness
- Charging a Heavy Attack consumes 1 Madness to inflict a 30% Infuriate Debuff for 5 seconds.
Dev Notes: When you’re feeling bold, charge your Heavy Attack to consume a Madness Passive during or after a combo. This will grant Scream’s Auto-Block Buff which works in tandem with Infuriate to entice the Opponent to swing at you and get Stunned by the Parry Mastery. This is particularly satisfying to do right at the start of the fight.
Also be mindful of Non-Contact attacks though because Scream cannot Parry them. While the Opponent won’t get Stunned, you can still Auto-Block these attacks to rack up Bleeds, Armor Breaks, and Hybrid Buffs on the Opponent.
Signature Ability[]

Dev Notes: Much like when Venom “Om Noms” the Opponent’s Buffs, Scream now has a chance to gain small bursts of Health each time she consumes a Madness Passive. Plus, her Madness Passives gain extra effects like Klyntar Buffs and Debuffs of the past. These effects add some useful utility, particularly the Armor Up Ability Accuracy reduction against Tech Champions which can mess with notable defenders like Red Skull.
Special Attacks[]
Knotted and Broken
- During Scream’s Special Attacks, all personal Debuffs on the Opponent and all personal Buffs other than Regeneration on Scream are paused.
Special 1 - I Whip My Hair Back and Forth
Scream's hair whips at her foe, then plunges through the ground to attack them from below.
- On activation, gain +X Attack Rating for each unique Buff on Scream for the duration of this attack.
| Tier | Attack Rating |
|---|---|
| 38 | |
| 100.6 | |
| 252.2 | |

- Each hit consumes 1 Madness to grant Scream a 100% Fervor Buff for 20 seconds. On any hit with 0 Madness, gain 1 Madness and then gain Madness instead of Fervor for the rest of this attack.
Dev Notes: The Attack Rating bonus is a nice incentive to get at least one of each of Scream’s Hybrid Buffs, but the real chase here is the Fervor Buffs. With all 3 Fervor granted from this Special, Scream’s chance to inflict Bleeds on all hits increases to 100% allowing her to truly run wild.
Special 2 - Hairspray
Tendrils slash and twirl until Scream leaps into the air to shower the enemy with split ends.
- On activation, consume all Madness. If 4 or more Madness were consumed, gain an Unblockable Buff for the duration of this attack.
- On each of the final four hits, deal a burst of X Direct Damage for each personal Debuff on the Opponent. The potency of these bursts increases by 8% for each Madness consumed during this attack. Max Debuffs: 30.

Dev Notes: This is your cash-out moment. After using Special Attack 1, race to Special Attack 2 with your Basic Attacks and try to rack up as many Madness Passives, Bleeds, and Armor Breaks as you can to get the most out of this potent (and potentially Unblockable) attack.
Special 3 - Let Down Your Hair
After letting her tendrils fly, Scream's prey is shredded by her sentient hair.
- Gain up to 8 Madness, and up to 2 of each Hybrid Buff. Then, until the end of Scream’s next Special Attack, abilities that consume Madness during Special Attacks consume 0 but still grant their outlined effects.
Dev Notes: Scream tops up her Madness Passives and her Hybrid Buffs. Then until the end of her next Special Attack, Scream benefits from all effects that interact with Madness consumption during her Special Attacks without consuming anything. This allows her to execute her Special Attack 1 into Special Attack 2 loop or just loop Special Attack 2 twice without needing to worry about building Madness.
Synergy Bonuses[]
Strengths and Weaknesses[]
Strengths[]
- Buff Versatility
- Scream can gain a lot of unique Buffs, making her quite friendly to content that challenges or scales with unique Buff count. Not to mention all the effects and utility granted by them.
- Resilience
- After consuming a Madness Passive, Scream gains the ability to Auto-Block Basic Attacks for 5 seconds providing a potent layer of security. Couple this with her Hybrid Bulwark Buffs, and the Regeneration Buffs unlocked in her Signature Ability, to further emphasize her sturdiness.
- Armor Denial
- Opponents of Scream will suffer frequent Armor Breaks, doubly so if they happen to be Bleed Immune. With Scream’s Signature Ability, Tech Champions also suffer significantly reduced Ability Accuracy to their Armor Up effects. So, if the Opponent manages to get an Armor Up effect, they won’t have it for long.
Weaknesses[]
- Bleed and Armor Break Immunities
- Scream has a chance to inflict a Bleed and an Armor Break on all hits. If the Opponent is Immune to one of her Bleeds, she will inflict 2 Armor Breaks instead. Similarly, if the Opponent is Immune to one of her Armor Breaks, they still suffer the original Bleed. But if the Opponent is Immune to both effects, her damage output is severely impaired.
- Buff Removal Effects
- Like most Symbiotes, Scream’s damage, survivability, and utility increase significantly as her Buffs come online. Preventing her from gaining her Buffs will keep fights with her manageable. Specifically removing her Buffs with Nullify also causes her to lose her Madness resource, slowing her ramp as well.
- Power Control
- Scream’s damage output increases significantly with the Fervor Buffs gained with Special 1, and her potent Special 2 is the cashout to her loop. If you can deny these Special Attacks with Power Control tactics you will slow her down.
Recommended Masteries[]
- Parry
- The Parry Mastery adds a lot of threat to Scream’s Auto-Block, creating an interesting way to extend combos by charging her Heavy Attack and preventing her Special Attacks from being punished with Basic Attacks.
- Deep Wounds
- Each rank of Deep Wounds extends the duration of her personal Bleeds and extends her Armor Breaks by 0.5 seconds. This means you are more likely to have more Bleeds and Armor Breaks on the Opponent when you toss your Special Attack 2 and cash out for big damage.
- Inequity
- Scream inflicts a great deal of Bleed and Armor Break Debuffs, meaning her Opponent will frequently suffer the full Attack Rating Reduction of this Mastery.
- Despair
- As mentioned previously, Scream inflicts a great deal of Bleed and Armor Break Debuffs, so her Opponent will often suffer the full Regeneration Rate Reduction of this Mastery.
Recommended Relics[]
- Venom
- Scream is an excellent candidate for this Relic with the Bleed Vulnerabilities, Bleed Potency Up, and the effects that scale with unique Buff count. Keep in mind that the effects that extend the duration of her Bleeds will not extend her Armor Break Debuffs.
