"I’ll tell you the same thing I told Queen Medusa: I’m not interested in killing people or dominating this place. I want the best for the Battlerealm."
—Carina to Captain America[src]

Carina is an unplayable character and a main protagonist in the game's story. She is the daughter of Taneleer Tivan, the Collector, and a young Elder of the Universe. During an expedition-gone-wrong a few billion years ago, she was transmuted into a statue of ISO-8 and shattered into a million pieces, and was only resurrected many years later when her fragments were regrouped and when her life spark was restored by Ægon.

Since her restoration Carina has focused her efforts on assisting the denizens of the Battlerealm, overthrowing her uncle's reign and becoming the newest overseer of the Contest.

In the Story[]

Discovering the Battlerealm and Apparent Demise[]

Three billion years before the current iteration of the Contest, Taneleer Tivan and his brother En Dwi Gast discovered the Battlerealm (then known as the Nexus Realm); Carina was made aware of this discovery and convinced her father to bring her along for one of their exploration trips. Ignoring her father's advice, Carina ventured outside their spaceship and was caught in an unexpected energy explosion, transmuting her into a statue of pure ISO-8 and accidentally shattered into a million fragments by her father. This event caused Taneleer to abandon En Dwi in his desperation to collect Carina's fragments, causing a permanent rift between the brothers.

In Taneleer's efforts to restore his daughter to life, he became the Collector and allied himself with the Maestro, setting up the newest iteration of the Contest of Champions. During its initial phases, the Collector secretly tasked Sentry with retrieving Carina's heart, however he disappeared for thirty-five years and the Collector assumed he was dead.

Cornerstone and Resurrection[]

After the Collector's defeat and the Grandmaster's rise to power, Doctor Strange's group was made aware of the existence of the Cornerstone, which if not reassembled threatened to destroy the Battlerealm. The group's plans to reassemble the Cornerstone were noticed by the Grandmaster, who attempted to stop them but eventually relented after the defeat of his contestant Ultron at the hands of the Summoner, and Doctor Strange was able to restore the Cornerstone, revealing it to be none other than Carina's shattered body, albeit missing the heart.

The Sentry eventually returned to the Battlerealm, having successfully retrieved Carina's heart. With the aid of Moon Knight and the Summoner, Collector reclaimed the heart from Sentry's evil persona, however he lacked the energy to restore her life spark. Her existence was soon thwarted by the Grandmaster's alliance with The Champion in the aftermath of the Infinity War, which prompted Collector to ally with the Avengers and recruit Ægon to defeat Champion. Ægon also provided the energy required, finally restoring Carina to life.

Rebirth and Revolt[]

Carina's transmutation and resurrection had an unintended side effect: she became intrinsically linked to the Battlerealm and gained the power to manipulate ISO-8. Wasting no time, she quickly started exploring the Battlerealm under the protection of Ægon and the Summoner. This frustrated her father but also drew the ire of her uncle, who was wary of her newfound powers, and put her to the test against a Sentinel and a Power Stone-infused Champion. Her efforts to convince the Battlerealm of her benevolence gained her new allies in Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Captain America and Iron Man, but also fueled a resistance that consisted of the Inhuman Royal Family, Nick Fury, Magneto's faction, and the Avengers, who were mistrusting of a new Elder of the Universe causing disruption in the Battlerealm.

During the Trial of Reed Richards, the Fantastic Four contacted Carina for assistance in liberating Mister Fantastic, who had summoned Galactus to the Battlerealm to create an opportunity to escape. Standing witness in the trial, she rebutted Richards' plan by revealing the existence of civilizations on Battleworld, causing him to plead guilty and be tasked with stopping Galactus' eventual arrival as his sentence.

Carina then organized a revolt with her allies, challenging her uncle's reign. Gaining the support of the Avengers and other Champions, their combined efforts were eventually enough to overpower and overthrow the Grandmaster. Carina then imprisoned both her father and uncle, ending the Elders' control over the Contest, and assumed control herself as the Contest's new stewardess. With Mister Fantastic's assistance, she quickly organized a new Council to discuss the matters of the Battlerealm, its members including the Watcher, Ægon, Mister Fantastic, Doctor Doom, Beast, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Iron Man and Medusa. She also contacted the Chronoserpent, and kept him at bay with her powers.

The Union[]

Carina, alongside the Summoner, Mister Fantastic and Sorcerer Supreme, participated in a ritual which restored Doctor Strange's astral form to his body. Sometime later Carina discovered that the ISO-Sphere had been stolen, and was tasked by the Council with recovering it. Allying herself with Guillotine and the Summoner, they eventually found the thief: Gwenpool, who was abusing its power by first creating Mash-Up Champions, then causing further chaos as Gwenmaster. However, Kang, still seeking revenge against the Summoner for his initial defeat, took advantage of the rifts caused by Gwenpool, and used the power of the Paradox Engine to bring anomalies from multiple timelines into the Contest. With the help of multiple sorcerers, Carina and her group engaged Kang in a showdown and he was promptly defeated; as a backup plan he instead summoned his variant Superior Kang to the Battlerealm. Unimpressed by Kang’s efforts, Superior Kang vaporized him, took over the Ghost Orchid, and waged all-out war on the Battlerealm. An unlikely alliance between Carina, a revived Kang, Ægon, Guillotine, Gwenpool and the Summoner was formed to stop the threat, and Superior Kang was eventually defeated by the Summoner on the Ghost Orchid.

The Battlerealm was soon met with the arrival of multiple variants of Galactus. Carina tasked the Summoner with investigating the theft of the Cosmic Seed, which led to the discovery of Galan in the Quantum Realm, and she assigned Deadpool to give him a tour of the Battlerealm. Concurrently, she assigned Ægon and the Champion to serve as the judges of the Battlegrounds, granting the victors with relics from her father's collection.
