Dialogue[]
Caption: With the imposter defeated, the group takes one last look at the room before moving on.
Civil Warrior: Relevant data copied, lockers locked, no weapon too world-changing in here but enough to keep some low-level henchmen henching.
Carina: Seal the room tight behind us as we push on. We'll get a group to come by later to sweep it out and eliminate any lingering threats.
Guillotine: I do not mean to pull too dark a cloud over our travels, but do you have hope we'll be leaving this place let alone returning to be its caretakers?
Carina: Hope is in short supply, shorter every day as of late. But we'll keep pressing on.
Ægon: Agreed, it is possible information on Glykhan will be in one of the many shadowy corners of this place...
Ægon: ... or perhaps we shall even find the fiend themselves lurking in these darkened chambers.
- Transmission #1 - Upon starting the Quest
Caption: The group soon find themselves in a massive vehicle bay. However in place of vehicles there are countless rows of gateway transmitters.
Civil Warrior: It's like Grand Central but in place of trains it's gates across the Battlerealm.
Carina: I've seen this sort of array before. Dad had one for his warehouse. Look for a central transmitter hub.
Guillotine: Your father had jump-gates capable of cross-planetary travel in a mere warehouse?
Carina: It was less of a "warehouse" and more of a series of storage dimensions spread across several asteroid belts. He's not called Collector for nothing.
Civil Warrior: Found the hub but it's offline. However it did have a holotape secretly strapped under one of the panels. So... just going to load that up.
Caption: With a crackle and buzz a near perfect holographic image of a former foe appears. The glowing face of Superior Kang speaks.
Superior Kang: ... and it's on? Yes. It's on. If you are viewing this you've defeated me, and doomed the multiverse. You absolute fools.
Superior Kang: The battery on this is less eternal than I so I'll say the following: My defeat shall leave room for the Chronoserpent to flourish. Gods help you.
- Transmission #2
Guillotine: Chronoserpent... Who or what is that?
Superior Kang: You may be asking absurd questions right now but remember I am but a recording. It is evil, deep dark evil. They are already all around you.
Civil Warrior: It is astounding how he can be irritating without even being in the room. I'm going to go try to start the hub up.
Superior Kang: Doubtless you have now even insulted me, but know this foe is unlike any other you've faced. I've left tracer data on this tape to more of my logs.
Superior Kang: Find them. Learn all you can. Do not underestimate this villain as I clearly underestimated you. Now flee this place, so commands Kang!
Caption: The recording fizzles out and the group stands in silence. Carina breaks that silence with a deep sigh.
Carina: Ever since I "took the throne" I've felt a dark influence that I kept pushed to the back of my mind. But it has a name... Chronoserpent.
Ægon: I too have felt a darkness coiled around this realm, one which corrupts all those who seek power here. I had held out hope it was mere paranoia.
Ægon: But it is an actively menacing voice in the shadows. One which means to destroy this place and all that dwell within.
- Transmission #3
Civil Warrior: Hey, I've figured out how to get enough juice in this thing to open a gate. Eyes open crew, we don't know whose door we're knocking on.
Caption: As soon as the gate opens another imposter Adaptoid confidently strides through. This one with the form of Black Cat.
Black Cat: Thanks for that, party people. Cerastes made me then had me sealed off since I wouldn't dance to their clumsy world-dominating beat.
Carina: I am not accustomed to seeing an Adaptoid so... well charming as you, if I'm honest.
Black Cat: We're all amplified in our powers, sweetheart. I just got a bit of extra charisma when I became a copy-cat. Now then, where was I? Oh yes.
Black Cat: Give me your valuables or I'll rip you to shreds. That sword, shiny belt, and glowing shield should fetch enough units for a nice weekend vacation.
Carina: I see they've also amplified your confidence beyond mortal levels. We're not handing over our weapons and armor.
Black Cat: Then we get to fight for them? How lucky for me. I've been looking for somewhere to sharpen my claws.
Civil Warrior: Hey, I've figured out how to get enough juice in this thing to open a gate. Stand back and be ready for anything!
Caption: A gateway opens and yet another imitation Adaptoid comes through. This one with the form of Professor Charles Xavier.
Professor X: I hear them! I hear everything! Every thought! Every fear! Every hateful moment! It is deafening!
Carina: Take it easy. Seems like they gave you the usual dangerous dose of power without control. We can help.
Professor X: Help? While thinking of ways to eliminate me? While right this second I hear you think of my every weak spot?
Carina: No one is doing that! We don't want to fight.
Civil Warrior: Full disclosure since he can hear my thoughts anyways, I was doing exactly that. But only as a defensive measure.
Guillotine: I too was immediately thinking of ways to shut this imposter down, I do not apologize for it.
Professor X: You see? You hear? There will be no peace for me until I silence every mind! Until I destroy you all!
Civil Warrior: Obviously we can't allow that. Sorry but we'll be needing to make you an ex-Professor X.
Civil Warrior: Hey, I've figured out how to get enough juice in this thing to open a gate. Actually there's power coming from both sides and - whoa!
Caption: The gate opens but instantly is overloaded with power. That power pulsing from an Adaptoid double with the form of Ikaris.
Ikaris: You should not have come to this place, and now you shall never leave.
Caption: Ikaris bursts again with power, another gate flaring to life near him then instantly burning out.
Civil Warrior: Their corrupted cosmic power is blowing every fuse and gate in the place! Shut him down now before we're trapped in here!
Ikaris: I have been shown the light. I have become the light. You won't succeed against me. And I will kill every one of you if I have to.
Civil Warrior: Not the first time we've heard that, which should tell you a little something about what happens to the folks who say it to us.
